Dynamics 365 V9 upgrade

Posted on by 40

Hi, I plan to upgrade the existing dynamics 365 V8 to V9 on premise. I was looking at the below new architecture and got confused, can I anyone explain that what "CRM extensions" is, and how is it going to affect the existing code, since I have customized entity, and case entity in use.

    Hi,

    1. You dont need to change any JavaScript/Customizations/plugins when you upgrade from 8.2 to 9. But you should start to use the updated XRM context and could use WebApi if you want.

    2. Yes, 9.0 requires a new license but its included with the licensing. However depending on how you purchase your licenses it differs. If you are a partner and sold the licenses through CSP you will find it on PartnerSource/Businesscenter. If you bought them through Enterprise Agreement, then you will find the license if you download the server installation file from CustomerSource. There are other threads describing where to find it if you are licensed through MPN.

I hope that help you out.

    Best Regards

    R

Thanks, Andrew, do you know if there is any changes on licensing for the V9 on-premise?

    Picture is just a picture.

Your code will stay where it is now.

    Hi, Andrew,

Based on the picture, does that mean my custom entity related code will go to app common module, and the case entity related code will go to the service management module?

    Hello,

It should not cause any issues. Personally I would not recommend to update to 9.0. On-Prem version of 9.0 has a lot of UCI bugs that are resolved in online already. If UCI is the only driver for you to upgrade - don't do it.

Are there any other features that you plan to use after update to 9.0 except UCI?
