Following is the scenario:
I have an Item I1 which consumes Item I2 and both of these items (I1 and I2) are batch controlled product.
I have two batches (B1 and B2) for an Item I2.
I reported as finished two batches B3 and B4 for an Item I1, where B3 consumes from B1 and B4 consumes from B2.
After few months now requirement is to know how B3 and B4 are produced and where they consumes the I2 from.
I used batch tracing functionality (AX 2012 R3, CU 11) and to my surprise it shows weird result.
For batch B3 it shows that it consumed from B1 and B2 both which is not true. Same it shows for B4 as well.
Ideally for B3 it should show that it consumes from B1 and B4 consumes from B2.
Is it is a bug or I overlooked some setup or parameter?

I have the same question (0)Look at the item transactions that were posted to verify that the actual batch used is the same as the one that was issued in the system.
After a few months I am not sure how you would determine which information source to trust and which has an error .e.g. the receipt and physical location by batch might have been entered in error.
I suggest trace forward from the PO as well as backwards from the SO
