Do Embedded Power BI Reports in Business Central Require a Separate Power BI License?

Hi Everyone,

I’m currently working with Dynamics 365 Business Central and exploring the use of embedded Power BI reports within the system.
I’d like to clarify the licensing requirements for this setup:

1. If a user already has a Business Central license (either Essentials or Premium), is that sufficient to view embedded Power BI reports?
2. Or do users also need a separate Power BI Pro or Premium license to access these reports within Business Central?

Any insights or official documentation references would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

    1. Is NOT sufficient to view embedded Power BI reports. A Power BI license is still required.
    2.
    Scenario Power BI License Required
View your own reports embedded in BC Power BI Pro
View reports shared by others Power BI Pro (or viewer needs P1 capacity in Premium workspace)
Share reports with others Power BI Pro
View reports via Power BI workspace in Premium capacity Viewer needs Free license, but the workspace must be Premium (P1 or higher)

Hi, hope the following can give you some help

Currently, the latest Power Bi reports require the installation of Power BI Apps, which can only be installed with Power BI Pro. Therefore, the free license cannot be used.
    For example,
Business Central 2024 wave 2 (BC25.1): Use embedded Power BI reports out of the box (In-client Power BI reports)
Business Central 2025 wave 1 (BC26.2): Use enhanced analytics for manufacturing (updated Power BI app)

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Yes, Power BI licensing is required in order to review the reports.
