I cant create users on CRM 2015

Posted on by 15

Hi,

I have a client running CRM 2015 on premise. When they try to add a new user from Security>Users and type in the user's logon name (Domain\User1) and tab out, the autocomplete from Active Directory doesn't happen and suggests the User doesn't exist. Please what could be the issue here?

PS: The user can log into the domain with his AD credentials

I went along with this suggestion but 'An Unexpected Error' message popped up. I will follow David's recommendation and see if that solves the issue

Make sure you use the correct domain name.

I have similar issue before, for example,  CompanyA\userADUserName it wont recognise but then when I used CompanyA.local\userADUserName, it picked up the user details.

Try the above, if it does not work,  like David suggested, there could be an issue with CRM - AD communication or the user you are trying to add is not in the AD OU that CRM has access to .

If they complete the rest of the required fields, manually if needed and save does the user get created?  You may need to actually have that save fail to get a better message out of the logs as David suggested as well.

Sounds like CRM has a problem communicating with an AD domain controller. I'd enable tracing to see if there are any useful errors on the CRM Server. One possibility is you may have a domain controller that is not functioning, and CRM may be trying to communicate with that domain controller (CRM does not try multiple domain controllers when creating users). You can determine which DC the CRM server is communicating with by running the SET command from a command prompt, and viewing the value of the LOGONSERVER variable
