What Is Expense Product?

Hi All,

Could you please explain in plain English

  1. What is the Expense Product?
  2. Why it is needed and why we can't live without it?
  3. What is the real life example of the expense products?

    I believe the expense Product you are talking about is technically a Service Item.

    A Service Item must be associated to a Non-Stock Inventory Model Group (so that the stock isn't affected when selling/buying the product) and linked to an expense account.

    An example can be a service that you are purchasing from a customer (flight tickets, labour for a service along with a product, etc..).

    You can use them within Purchase/Sales Order.

    Hi MarinaAX,

    In addition to what Kathree already mentioned... for No 2 (whether you can life without expense products), the answer is basically 'it depends'. That is because making use of service items vs. purchase categories vs. recording expenses directly in expense journals has an influence on your process flows and how your work is organized. If you like/have to work with purchase orders, service items or purchase categories are an option. If you rather record expense transactions directly for example in AP journals, you do not need those service items.

    Probably you could provide some additional info on what you plan to use those expense products for to get some additional feedback from the community.
