Extensive SQL blocking when multiple users posting vendor invoices simultaneously

Each month, our distributed AP department needs to post thousands of vendor invoices during a 2 or 3 day period. When this time comes, there can be around 5 users simultaneously posting invoices and they usually post batches of 20 or more at a time.

When this occurs, significant database blocking occurs and it affects other users in the system who are processing PO's, usually buyers whose sessions start freezing up.

The blocking seems to occur on the SUBLEDGERJOURNALENTRY table.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what steps have been taken to resolve it?

    I should mention that we are running AX 2012 FP CU3 on SQL 2008 R2

    I have seen some performance issues during posting,  what i have found was 2 things.

    1) poor write performance on the SQL server (specifically temp table writes)

    2) having the Financial Dimension Sets set to update balances during the posting process.

    Due to the slow SQL writes the system struggled updating the Dim Sets.  I have turned off this feature and set it to update via a batch until our SQL server write performance gets fixed.

    Hi Anil

    I have found the following Hotfix.

    KB2821760 : The dimension storage framework does not handle multithreading properly resulting in significant blocking

    Symptoms : When inserting or deleting many dimension framework table rows in a transaction, other transactions are blocked on the big transaction completing, causing significant slow-downs.

    Resolution : Apply all dimension storage changes on separate user connections, as the values are immutable and not garbage-collected anyway. This avoids blocking on the dimension storage table changes, providing better concurrency and performance

    This hotifx is include on CU5 of AX 2012 R1.

    Thanks Denis and Eric, I really appreciate your insight!

    It looks like the hotfix Denis referenced lives on a list of "important" hotfixes (blogs.msdn.com/.../afterru8.aspx) so I'll be sure to review these and hopefully one or more of them help.

    So we installed the suggested hotfix last month and the problem seems to have come back again today :(

    Any other ideas?
