Reporting on Sales Line Financial Dimensions

In AX2009 it was simple to do Fin Dims in Sales line as there where in the SQL table.   I am trying to figure out how to do the same thing in AX2012.   It looks like sometimes there is a LedgerDimension code and others there is a Default Dimension code.   Is there a setting that controls this?   I see the default Dimension code and it links to DimensionAttibutevalueset.   I see the hashtag but don't see where the hashtag links to.   Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Jim,

There is a whitepaper on the new Financial Dimensions framework. It also contains data models to help understaning the logic. You can find it here: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh272858.aspx

I think this document would help you.

LedgerDimension and DefaultDimension fields are the Financial Dimension reference recId field to the the table DimensionAttributeValueSet

You will find methods on the table to get the value.

Please follow following link for more details

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dimensionattributevalue.aspx

Table DimensionAttributeValueCombination stores the combinations of dimension values any tables that uses dimension  combinations for main account and dimensions has a reference to this table’s recid

Class Dimension storage is used to store and manipulate the values of combination

Class DimensionStorageSegment will get specfic segments based on hierarchies

Please verify and update us if this information helps you solve your problem

Thank the document doesn't discuss why or how the switch between LedgerDimension and Default Dimension.   Is there a setup option in AX2012?

    Hi Jim,

I think you want to know when these fields are used and for what purpose?

The LedgerDimension is used for storing the Main account and also the dimensions when the Account Type 'Ledger' is used. In case of other account types this fields, only contains the reference to e.g the customer or asset id.

The DefaultDimension field is used for providing dimensions in cases where the account type is not Ledger.

It doesn't explain why some Saleslines have default dimension and some Ledger Dimensions

Thanks I have customers that want to report both Fin Dims and accountstructure.   It seem each process is different as some tables have Default Dimensions and some have Ledger Dimensions and some use Accounting Distribution.   In 2009 it was straight forward but doesn't seem to be so in AX2012.

    Hi Jim,

On the sales line, the LedgerDimension field contains a main account in cases where you have specified a service item and want to expense the costs on this main account. The sales line financial dimensions are stored in the field DefaultDimension.
