Is it possible to hide fields on a form using security?

We have a client request to 'clean up' some form by hiding certain unused fields.

Does security in AX 2012 R2 allows you to set security on the field level?

Our preference would be to not customize the form in order to hide it but keep it through "configuration'  - hiding it through security setting

    Hi Zvika,

Yes this is possible. If you open the Security Roles form, select the role and click the button 'Override permissions'. Open the tables/fields node. Search the related table and uncheck the field 'Do not override'. Then set the Override access level to the original Access level. Now you can unfold the fields. Per field you can now also uncheck the 'Do not override' button and set the level to 'No access' or also when needed to 'View'.

These changes are also stored on the Role in the AOT. You can also do it directly within the AOT. Within the AOT it is a bit quicker, but you then don't have the overview of all related tables within the role.

From the user interface you can also copy the setting to all roles at once.

    Hi Andre,

I tried your suggestion but it doesn't work, I have to uncheck the override for the table first, then uncheck the override for the specific field then check the Do not override box for the field after I had changed it to no access so that specific field will not show up on the form, then after that do I change the override access level for the table back to full control and close, I tried different ways and it didn't work, once I put no access for the field it puts no access for the whole table, what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi mmichael,

I think your issue is caused by re-enabling the 'Do not override' setting. If you enable it, it will delete the manual overrides for that field/table.

    Hi mMichael,

If what you've done so far doesn't work, try again with the following sequence (basically the same as what Andre said):

    1) Mark down the original security level of the table and each field in the table. (i.e. the security level for the table and fields when "Do not override checkbox" is checked)

    2) Uncheck the "Do not override checkbox" for the table and all the fields in the table.

    3) Now apply the original security level you marked in step 1.

    4) Now, for the field(s) you want to hide, edit the "override access level" drop box to set it to "No access". You can combine step 3 and 4 together.

    5) Close the form(s)

I am having the same issue. what I did is.

    1) Select the particular role. click override access level

    2) Select the table in my case Purchline

    3) unmark the override checkbox on table level it convert the access to full control on table

    4) I select the purchPrice field and set to no access

but no result still the user have access to that field.

    Hi Sajjad,

Can you check if this user has one or multiple roles? Check per role the override permissions. Do this also for the role System user.

    Hi Andre

I have the same issue, nothing resolved. It does not work

i am trying to hide field Cost price in 'Manage Costs' (Product information management) for the role sales manager

i tried everything but nothing worked.

Now if i do the same with system user, then all the users are system users, will it not effect every user

    Regards

    Yousaf

    Hi Muhammad,

Please create a new question on the forum and indicate your attempts. Then also tell which roles are assigned to the user and if there are customized roles.

    Hello Andre,

I know this is a very old post, but I have this issue.

Also when you say "From the user interface you can also copy the setting to all roles at once", from where is it exactly possible?

I do not see any copy functionality there.

    Thanks
