AX is designed in a way that Sales Orders are just temporarily there. Every posting you do goes into their respective tables such as CustInvoiceJour for invoice headers, etc. Once a SO is invoiced, you can actually delete the SO (there is even a periodic cleanup functionality for that), and your financial figures and posting history will not be affected (unless you incorrectly changed and designed SSRS reports to use data from the tables involved, though it should have been replicated to the posting tables).

The current open sales orders should retain the unit price/line amount if you delete the trade agreements anyway, though you should give it a try in a Test instance as Guy has suggested wisely.

The dropdown behavior should be easily changeable as well by a developer to add filtering on what can you see.

    Hi Guy,

Thanks for the response. It is good to know the reason you cannot delete the Line discount groups. This makes my other two questions important:

    - if I delete those trade agreement lines and the line discount groups, will I destroy any sales history? Presumably the name of the line discount group will disappear on old sales orders, will the correct discount remain?

    - as I noted above, I tried the process described to delete the trade agreement lines (in a test ENV) but even though the journal posted w/no errors the lines are still there - any ideas on what I did wrong?

And I guess what I really wish I could do is change the behavior of the drop-down - to only show active trade agreements so that I could keep them all for history.

RE: Deleting a posted Trade agreement

    Hi Gary,

Deleting Trade agreement lines themselves will not reduce the number of discount groups you see in the 'Line discount group' drop-down.

The Line discount groups that you can set on sales order headers are setup at Sales and marketing -> Setup -> Price/discount -> Customer price/discount groups -> Line discount group. You would need to delete them from here to reduce the number of choices that your user can see.

However, you will not be able to delete a Line discount group if it is used on a Trade agreement line. So, delete all the Trade agreements for the Line discount groups that you wish to remove. Then delete the Line discount groups, then check everything looks OK. Recommend you try in a test environment first!

OK, I said I understood the procedure for deleting old trade agreements, but when I tried the process explained in dynamicsteaching.com/how-to-delete-a-posted-trade-agreement-journal-in-ax-2012, the trade agreement lines (sales line discount) still appear on items. Steps:

    - created new Price/discount journal

    - used Select to find all Line discounts

    - used filtering and Delete record (Alt F9) to reduce list to just the lines I want to delete

    - picked Select all agreements to delete

    - Posted the journal

    - Infolog says journal posted successfully

However when I go to a released product and check the trade agreements - the one I deleted is still there.

What might I be doing wrong?

Also, when this does work - will this eliminate the entry in the Line discount group pull down in a quote/order? that is my real goal here - to eliminate the mass of old trade agreements reps have to filter thru to find the active one they need. Is there a better way to accomplish this?

    thanks,

I understand the procedure for deleting old trade agreements. My question is: is there any negative effect on history if we delete old line discount agreements? We pull AX sales order info into our BI tool for management reporting. If I delete old discount trade agreements will old sales orders still reflect the accurate discount and the name of the line discount group?

    Thanks,

Please try to search online and on the forums the next time.

Try these in a Test/QA environment first to see if it works for you, then if everything looks correct only then do it in production:

If I correctly understand what you want to do, then create a new Price/discount agreement journal. In the 'Lines', use the 'Select' button to bring the trade agreements that you wish to delete into the journal. If trade agreements that you do not wish to delete have been brought into the journal, remove them using Alt+F9. Press the 'Select all agreements to...' button to mark these lines for deletion. Post the journal.
