Nav2013 Server service account issue

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi expert,

I use 3 tier server method to install Navision 2013, and my problem is In the Navision Server, I need to use "User Account" for login account. but if I install Nav server with SQL server in one , I can use "Network Service" for login account. I google and MS has a article to discuss this. but still has same issue. does anybody knows why ?

I do not know how Gorilla works but when you say "SOAP port", do you mean that the Gorilla program connects to NAV through NAV webservices? Is the user Gorilla uses to connect defineable somewhere? If Gorilla is a service itself, it might be the same user that starts Gorilla the one used to connect to NAV. Are the machines in a domain with AD?

If that is the case you just need to make sure you have an user (does not have to be the same user that starts the NAV service) with SUPER permissions (just to make it simple and easy, although you should use a different set of permissions after the testing) in NAV, not even SQL, and use that user for Gorilla.

    Jose,

appreciate your explain. We used Gorilla Expense program and Gorilla support to import data into Navision General Journal. when we run the Gorilla interface, Gorilla need open SOAP port. If we use user account to set Nav service Account, that means user must be use the same user account to run the interface. this is issue 1. another issue is if we use "Network Service" for Nav server login account, we must install Nav server with SQL server in one server else we can't use "Network Service" for login account if we install Nav Server in different server.

    Thanks!!

When you are setting up the instances, you can choose what user you want them to start with (regardless of how you installed NAV). You usually choose either an actual user or the network service account. When in a production environment it is highly recommended that you do NOT use the network service account (security issues, you can see why at the bottom of this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh168936(v=nav.71).aspx). Many times people just create an account for NAV alone and not use it for anything else. Of course you have to make sure that account has the right permissions in SQL server.

Now, that being said, I am not sure what your problem is. Could you be a little more specific please?
