Form 941 Quarterly Wages are more than SUTA and FUTA Wages

Posted on by 233

When doing my quarterly reports, i noticed that the total wages for the quarter reported on 941 are higher than the total wages reported for FUTA and SUTA purposes (the latter two tie to each other).  These are the total wages, not the taxable wages (i.e., not the $14,000 FUTA limit, for example).

Looking back at the last several quarters (I've only been at my current company less than 4 weeks), I see that there has always been a variance. Asking around, there is no known reason for this.

I'm "guessing" that perhaps an employee or employees are not marked as being subject to FUTA and/or SUTA.   Although, the current quarter variance is small (around $2K), so I'm not totally convinced that's the issue.

My question is regarding whether or not there is an easy way to identify which employee records are causing the discrepancies.   This is my first time working with GP.  Are there any canned reports I can use, or something I can easily create? Thank you.

Thank you; however, I don't see the paths that you reference.

The 941 pulls detailed figures from the UPR30300 table, which should match the UPR30301 table. The below Summary paths direct you to windows to view the Summary totals by month, and assume they match the UPR30300. Running the Payroll reconcile utility will update the Summary table totals to match the detail.
