Hello,

I'm looking for a way to open files using AX365FO.

I noticed that I can't open them using URL attachments or Browser class. I always get a error "This window could not be opened. Check your pop-up blocker settings and add an exception for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations".

Tried on different bwosers chrme, IE, EDGE and the same. I do use the on-premise version of AX.

Is the only way to read the file into a stream and save it into a temp storage just to open it? The files are stored on a file server in our local network.

Please forget implementation details for a moment and tell us what you're trying to achieve from users' point of view. What is the business problem you're trying to address?

We do save some PDF files from AX directly to our file server, the filepath is stored is a table.

The user should be able to open this files without looking on the fileserver.

If he just copypastes the filepath in brower it opens fine but to skip this step it should be just open file on click.

Hmm, I gave it a try and got the same result. I created a table with an URL field and try to click on the link and open it with Browser.navigate().

It works perfectly with http URI scheme, but if I use the file scheme (e.g. file:///c:/Temp/test.txt), it ends up with "The window could not be opened" dialog. Allowing pop-ups makes no difference. Of course, the URL is valid and I can open the file by using this URL directly in my browser.

One more thing I tried was creating an HtmlViewer control with such a link, but it created an 'a' element without the href attribute.

Did you use a specific approach or workaround to access the local file system from D365 F&O? Any details or examples would be greatly appreciated.

@nyonik80 Please create a new thread and explain your particular requirements there. This thread wasn't about accessing the local file system from F&O; it was about telling the browser which local file to open. That's a local browser opening a local file, not F&O reaching to user's machine and reading files.
