Ax 2012 R2 demo vm installation

Hello,

I have downloaded the AX 2012 R2 demo vm VHDs here: https://mbs.microsoft.com/partnersource/France/deployment/downloads/service-packs/AX2012DemoToolsMaterials

Please can you tell me where to find the instructions for installing the vm?

In particular I would be grateful for some information on how to install this virtual machine on Azure, if somebody has already done it. Thanks a lot.

Best regards,

Agostino

I recently deployed VM on Azure using LCS, you can create new Azure account (its 30 days trial period and you have to provide your Credit Card info but its totally safe) and than follow the steps mentioned in the following blog: dynamicsnavax.blogspot.com.au/.../step-by-step-deploy-ax-2012-r3-on-azure.html

in trial period you can create at Max 1 VM and there are different types (Dev/TEST/Demo) I recommend to use Demo if you want all in one including Contoso data with development option.

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply, but in LCS I can only deploy a 2012 R3 vm, not R2.

    Hi Agostino,

I have done it once with help of a blog from Alex Anikiev. There are two options:

    - Upload an existing VHD: ax2012aifintegration.blogspot.nl/.../microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-in-windows_30.html

    - Create new VM and install AX 2012: ax2012aifintegration.blogspot.nl/.../microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-in-windows.html

Uploading the VHD yourself takes a very long time to complete. Probably the best is install AX 2012 on a machine yourself. You can also first deploy a AX 2012 R3 image, then remove AX and install AX 2012 R2. You can then also install the demo database yourself when required.

    Hi André,

The problem have encountered with the first option is that I have to run Sysprep on the vm image before uploading it to Azure, as mentioned here: azure.microsoft.com/.../virtual-machines-create-upload-vhd-windows-server

But it is impossible to execute the vm in Hyper-v in my pc, since it has 16 GB of ram, and 30 GM are recommended.

May I ask you if when you did it you had 30 GB of ram in your machine?

    Thank you,

    Agostino

    Hi Agostino,

I find it is possible to run the AX demo VMs on a PC with only 16GB RAM. I can give the VM 12GB, and normally I have to close pretty much every application I have open to start the VM. It works best if the VHDs live on an SSD hard disk (it's pretty much unusable if its not).

    Hi Agostino,

I can run the VM on a PC with 16 GB quite OK. I then allocate between 10-12 GB memory to the VM. When needed I disable Sharepoint search and Sharepoint timer services which actually consumes a lot of resources.
