Dynamics NAV 2016 Send to Excel

Hallo,..

    Hallo,..

We have the following problem: Some users in Dynamics NAV 2016 should not be allowed to send data from some Tables (Customer, Vendor, Contact) to Excel.

Is there a possibility to set Programm code to manipulate to the System function "Send to Excel".

I have tried to set  MaxNoOfXMLRecordsToSend in ClientUserSettings.config to "10", but with no success.

Do this Parameter still work in Dynamics NAV 2016 ?

Also we have to forbid to Transport many Data from Table Customer, Vendor and Contact per drag and drop (Strg/c - Strg/v) to Excel - (if possible only for some Users) - Any idea?

    which ClientUserSettings.config did you change?

check if there is one in folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\. if yes, make the change also in that file. better reduce the value to 1. after that restart RTC client.

there is no way to disable copy/paste. you could try to set strg+c/v as shortcut of a different function.

but in general stays the question: why doing that all?

do you not trust these users? better you trust them.

if it's really needed that some users are restricted, better work with roles/permission sets, use profiles, where you disable pages/sub pages/reports for these users. if they cannot see the data, they cannot use/export them.

    Thanks for your answer.

I only set MaxNoOfXMLRecordsToSend to 10 in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\ClientUserSettings.config. After that i have restart RTC-Client.

But i can send thousands of records to Excel.

And yes, we trust the users. But this is an request from an external data security engineer.

Some Data imported from webshops are sensitive address data.

Users have to work with this data in NAV but are not allowed to Export them.

There should be no possibility to theft mass data.

assuming you have defined a custom profile for these users, you could run the windows client in configuration mode with that profile. then remove the "send to excel" button by editing the page ribbon (page function "customize ribbon").

    to disable copy/paste

    follow http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-desktop/disable-copy-or-cut-and-paste-completely/125d5548-3c33-4157-9dfe-8933b85cc031?auth=1

or develope a hook handler in c# to monitor the clipboard and use it in the page.

Ok - i have removed "send to Excel" button. But you can start the same function from general arrow at left top at every the page:

Print & send - Microsoft Excel

Is it possible to remove this too? Not from customize ribbon i think

It is "Copy and paste rows" Ctrl+Shift+C  and Ctrl+Shift+V.

I tried to set a shortcut with a different function but it does not work. It is still possible to Transfer Multi lines to Excel. Also with mark lines and right click

the best way is, to hide the relevant data (pages, subpages, reports) for these users. for that you can set permissions in the nav objects (tables, ...) or create a custom profile and/or permission set. create, if needed, custom pages, where they only see the data, they need and not more.

that would be much more the standard nav way for solving such issues.

    thanks for your tips.

I know the possibilities to hide data in NAV using permission sets. but our problem is that users have to work with the data in Nav. The only thing what is forbidden is, to copy multi data from nav to outside.

as i wrote before, that is not possible in standard nav. that would need as i suggested a very special customization (hook).
