Validation of tax exempt number

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

i am not sure if it is possible in D365fO to use the validation-option of the tax exempt number in order to get the "right" tax exempt number including the prefix.

In other words: For example in germany the right constellation of the tax exempt number is "DE" + 9 numbers. If i set the validation, D365fO checks if there are 9 numbers. That is correct and ok. But it is not allowed to put the prefix "DE" in here.

So i have to remove the "DE" and then i can save the tax exempt number.

But now the tax examt number is shown without the prefix and that is what i am wondering about.

Now my question is: Is there a possibility to add the correct prefix there and additonally use the validation-option?

Best regards

Christian

    Hi Veronika,

There is a list on the internet: en.wikipedia.org/.../VAT_identification_number

For some country/regions the validation is added as part of the localization, but not for all countries.

Where are the rules against which the format of vat numbers are being validated per country?

    Is this hard coded?

How can I know what number of digits is it actually validating for each country?

The validation is on the format of the number not including the DE prefix.

    Hi Christian,

I would suggest that you either implement a system modification and/or inform the MS team via MS connect if the standard functionality does not meet your expectations.

    Hi Ludwig,

I know about the fact, that there is no check for the correct number and that it is only a check about the format. But even this "format-check" is not working right if you cant put the prefix "DE" in there.

So in my opinion this check here is totally useless like it works right now.

    Christian

    Hi Christian,

In this case I would suggest that you remove the validation parameter. That is because the 'validation' is not a real validation in the sense that the tax exempt number really exists. It's a mere check whether the number format and the control digits are ok but there is no guarantee that this number really exists. A correct validation requires a link to an external data provider who can do that check for you but this is not available in the standard application and requires a system modification.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

yes if i remove it, I can put in nearly everything I want for the tax examt number. But then no Validation will be made and that is not what i want :)

In my opinion, the Validation should work for a number like "DE123456789". But i only can put in the "123456789" number without the prefix "DE".

    Hi Christian,

If you remove the Parameter 'Umsatzsteuernummer überprüfen' can you enter the tax id number with the DE prefix?

    Hello Ann,

    hello Ludwig,

thanks for your answers. I did check the paramters there and i allready changed them, but everytime i want to enter a new tax examt number, i get the same message " It is not allowed to enter letters here"

    2017_2D00_03_2D00_16-13_5F00_58_5F00_21_2D00_L_E400_nder_2D005F00_Regionsparameter-_2D002D00_-Operations.png

I just removed the "DE" here, but this did not work, too.

So i dont know what to to right now.

    Best regards

    Christian

    Hi Christian,

Please have a look at what AnnGrev suggested and enter the complete number including the prefix in the tax exempt number field. The parameter settings will then ensure that AX can identify the number and country.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
