Multiple Report.dic - Citrix environment

Hello Everyone,

We are preparing for our GP2015 upgrade and we have between 20 - 25 GP company's to upgrade. About 30% of these GP company's have their own unique report.dic file. In our current environment all GP users have GP installed on their own local desktops, which makes it possible to have multiple report.dic files. We have one UNC path with multiple folders specific to each GP company.

For example, Servername/Greatplains/PAname/report.dic. In this case the 'PAname' is what makes the path unique to the user during the GP installation on their location workstation.

Moving forward with the GP2015 upgrade we would like to eliminate installing GP on local workstations for all users and introduce GP to a citrix environment where all users will access GP through Citrix.

My question is, is it possible to have multiple report.dic files unique to users in a GP citrix environment. If this is possible, how would this be configured within the citrix environment. If anyone has gone through this scenario, please advise.

That is not easy task.  I am not sure about GP side, but you can use Citrix roaming profiles and redirect them to use specific location and possible have GP files to users profile. I think you will need to reconfigure every user anyway to look into custom folders for the report.dic. But this is a theory only. Most likely it will not work because of GP is an application that uses specific installation location not depending how users login.

    Question for you first.

When user one sits down at computer one and logs onto to GP Company one - I am guessing that he is accessing Report Dictionary One as well.   Am I correct to guess also that this is done by a unique path in the Dynamics Set file that this user - uses to launch GP.

Can or does User One at Computer One ever log onto Company Two?  If so, is there a separate SET file / Launch file created for that Company Two?

All of the 'separate' files for report dictionaries is great and pretty simple on multiple desktop installations as you can hide and provide different Report dictionaries.  However, as soon as you go to Citrix and ONE and only ONE instance of the GP Client - you run into a huge issue.

Generally the rule is one client installation - one set file.  What you do to one set file in Citrix is done to all user of the Citrix cleint.

Here is where you have to 'think out of the box' and create many different Set Files and report Dictionaries and provide the users with access to each of the different launch files on a common citrix desktop.

So, while I started out to ask a question - I have told you how I would deal with your problem as you have started to frame the environment.

I think it will work as long as you grant the correct security to each of the users on the citrix machine to see all the different locations of the GP Dictionary that you will have to create.

    Hope this helps.
