Hi,
I have a Case entity.
Cases have a related entity Customer which are located in a council area which is recorded against each council. This council area has a value "Average wages" that is held in a separate entity Locations
I have field on the Case entity called "Case Average Wage". I want to populate it with the value from the Locations table when a new case is created.
Case field:"Case Average Wage" >> Customer >> Locations field:"Average wages"
Is this possible to do from a background workflow?
i.e.
Is this possible without using a plugin?

If you want to run when a record is created using +New button then u can also use JS. Else Plugin will be only solution.
Then plugin will be the last option for you.
Then you have to use plugin.
Unfortunately we are not in the cloud, therefore cannot use PowerAutomate
Workflow will be having some limitations with 2nd reference...so you can use power automate or plugin which will be ideal and practical solution

In the workflow you can not retrieve the records.
Please use power automate for the same.
You can perform all required action in power automate.
