How do you remove the search icon in busniess central? can this be achieved via a permission set or by roles as i want certain users not to have this feature and only view the page they have been assigned in roles.
That is not possible.

Can you use permissions sets so they cannot see certain sections of business central for example, I only want an asset manager to see fixed assets only. I do not want them to have read-only access to, say, the jobs module, as they do not need to see it.
Yes, that is exactly what you can do with permission sets.
You can put together your own customized permission sets or you can use predefined permission sets.

Please use link for it. https://yzhums.com/9416/But if it's for Saas base then it's not possible to hide search button. You can create Permission set Base on that you can restrict the user.
