Hi. Is the implementation and installation of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 can do yourself by learning from the TechNet site and MDSN without the help of Microsoft Gold Partner. And is there a company that successfully implemented its own?. Thank you.

You MIGHT be able to install the system using the technical documentation. It will definitely not be simple.

It is hard to see how you can implement (=start using) the application without an expert on board (whether or not that person is from a Microsoft partner or an independent.

Compare this question: Is it possible to do surgery yourself? It MIGHT be able, but.... where to start, painfull, ....

My advise like Zvika said in other words: You need someone who knows installation procedures, but most of all a functional consultant or solution architect can tell you how to achieve your requirements.

As Andre said: If you wan to go this road by your self, but it will be painfull.

But first concider this: Is your organization so complex that you would need AX? Do you do Production, Project accounting, Retail or are you simply a plain logistics Company? Maybe AX isn't the right solution if you want/need to og this road alone?

However I think it is doable if you start in the right places.

First up: Licenses. You can only buy this through a Microsoft Dynamics Partner. You don't need a Gold partner though. ;)

After licencing you would need to learn how to install AX. This can be done by reading the guides which are available online. A lot of issue solving can be done through beading blogs and FAQs.

    Next up is Application setup

You would atleast need to learn (in detail) the General Ledger, Production Information and Warehouse and Inventory modules. There is a vast jungle of parameters that you need to og through as well as setting up all the base data to make the system work. Use online training to get to know these modules and use the Contoso demo data from Microsoft to view how this is done or ask an existing AX customer if you can come visit to do a run though of their system and how it is set up.

My best tip for knowing AX is understanding that Item Groups define how the Inventory movements are posted to general ledger.

If you want to do layout amendments to reports and standard documents like invoices, packingslips and so on you also need to learn how to do some basic AX development and SSRS development. Read all about this on MSDN and also take a look at the AX BI departments series on report Development here: www.youtube.com/.../dynamicsaxbi

I believe that for one person to go this road alone you'll probably need three to four years though.

Investing in a good AX consultant or hireing a solution architect from a partner will be Money well spent. ;)

    Good Luck!
