Is there a 6 count network hop limitation between the end users and the Dynamics AX hosted servers? I've been told there's a 6 count hop limitation without being told what the latency requirements of the application is. There's only 40 ms of latency between the data center where the server is hosted and the network the users are on, and the users are complaining about performance issues. Is this more to do with the 40ms of latency or does this have something to do with the actual number of Hopson between?
I haven't heard of such limit. But the latency between the client and the AOS should be as small as possible. Opening some forms might require tens or even hundreds of roundtrips between the client and the AOS, so 40 ms quickly turns in to 4000 or 40 000 ms. However it's not possible to say whether your users' performance issues are caused by latency, since we don't know enough about those issues. You should be able to verify it quite quickly by running the same processes using a client on the AOS server.
Quite often customers publish the AX client via RemoteApp, Citrix or similar solution so that the client can reside close to the AOS. Instead of having users run it on their local workstations behind laggy network connections.
