Dear  ;

Is there any suggestion to stop manual bar code entry in pos ?

We use bar code  scanner to  enter items But sometimes the bar code is entered manually from the cashier

My problem is that the items are replaced, because the correct bar code is not entered, the same price but different item

thanks

    In real life, many times the barcode is damaged for some reason, and the cashier must type it manually. Do you want to block this kind of scenario, preventing the sales?

    Dear Nikolaos Mäenpää ;

    I do not need to prevent sales?

    It is difficult that the barcode is damaged by the branch, and they also have a bar code printer in the warehouse to be printed

    I need inventory control work and Avoid replacing codes

    You will probably also get returns without bar codes.

    If you have dishonest staff then they will either not scan or scan a different item.

    Most retailers prefer to allow manual entry rather than lose a sale.

    You could provide a printed list of items with the correct bar code so if need be the list bar code could be scanned, but if you have a lot of outlets/pos, and lot of items, and those frequently change then there would be a lot of maintenance.

    Prevention is usually better than cure, so I suggest put more focus  on stopping the problem of missing or wrong barcodes ever arising. Spot checks/cycle counts is one way, QA on store receipt is another etc.

    How/when do you determine a wrong bar code was entered manually - and whether it was a wrong bar code that was scanned?

    Dear magic1949 ;

    The problem is our Items have the same price and different bar codes

    With POS sales staff enter different Items other than sold items

    and stopped in statement journal

    for ex :   item A  price 100 $    and B  price 100 $

    customer take 1 a 1 B   net amount 200 $      the cashier if scanned he will scan A and B

    When entered manually May make mistakes need stop manual bar code and  Add all items with a scanner

    But why does the cashier input wrong code for item B? What is the underlying reason here? Is there a problem in the barcode of item B? Wrong data in the system is just the outcome of this process. But what is the reason for ending up in this situation?

    Even if you prevent manual input, the cashier could still scan the barcode of A two times. So could this be resolved with better instructions and training of the staff? And I would guess there will always be some human errors. You can try to minimize them, but you can´t completely get rid of them.

    Dear Nikolaos Mäenpää ;

    I know it is not natural to stop manual entry But I need to reduce the problems even more , All items have bar code And all the company's problems  Due to the addition of items without the use of scanner

    The proposal was public administration  Stop entering items without bar code reader

    What do you suggest in your experience ?

    So your scenario is following: customer took items A and B. In your retails transactions you have A and A.

    There are two explanations for how this could have happened.

    1) The salesperson scanned barcode A and then manually typed barcode A.

    2) The salesperson scanned barcode A two times.

    What makes you think that it was explanation 1? That would seem much bigger effort for the salesperson, so I don't understand why they would have done it.

    If you prevent 1, the salesperson can still do 2. Do you think they wouldn't do that, given that you think they already were happy with the extra effort of 1?

    Based on the information you provided, my guess is that the sales person thinks "there is no difference between these two items, so I can just scan this first barcode two times". What do you the salesperson is thinking?

    Unfortunately I can't help you with the technical question. Why I responded in the first place was to help you think through if this technical solution is really helping in your business problem.
