Client Kernel Version & Server's Kernel Version

Hi Community,

Working with AX2009 I found out that the kernel version of the AX clients is lower than the server's. I looked for the answer and found this:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/axsupport/2014/12/10/faq-microsoft-dynamics-ax-kernel-hotfixes/

I just want to make sure wether I should update the clients' kernel version or not. Furthermore, are there any expected issues for applying such an update ?

Thanks a lot,

Itamar.

    Hi Waller Walker,

Blog you provided in your post is the blog of Microsoft support team and if they says that you should not have different versions of client and server components I don't have any reasons not to believe them.

I would rather expect issues if you will have different versions than if they are the same because this scenario is not officially supported, so probably was never tested.

They could have different communication protocols between versions. Unexpected behavior is very likely to happen if versions do not match, so you must apply the hotfixes for the client, to match it with the AOS.

Applying the kernel hotfix has no risk.

I allways check the client version and kernel version on client startup, so if there is a mismatching the client is forced to close application (unless its the admin user who is executing the client application), I have been doing this since 4.0 just to be sure I don't forget to update any client application
