    It sounds like you have some sort of customization that allows you to visualize these two fields as date. I will for now assume you are looking at something like '01/12/2016'. The field in itself stores a string value at the database level, so all the content in the table is already a string. If this is a Modifier customization (it will have a dot before the window name) and you want to disable the customization , you must disable access to the modified window via security. If your customization was done with VBA (it will have dot at the end of the window name), you will need to remove the form from VBA.
