Picking List Registration

Hi,

As I can understand, Picking List Registration is not a mandatory step.

So if it's not done, stock would be adjusted at the packing slip posting.

In what circumstances a company would prefer to do the Picking List Registration 'coz it's an extra step?

If the handheld devices are used, can we automate the pick registration step / avoid it completely?

Thanks!

If you post the picking list document, you are required to actually perform the picking. The reason for this is that the posting of the picking list creates outbound order lines and these have to be ended somehow before packing slip update can be done.

In AX2009 you could create "proforma" picking lists by just not posting the picking list as is done with all other documents, but in 2012 this is not possible.

    Easiest solution:

You could create a powerBI or a spreadsheet (through the Excel add-in) to get some kind of report to use and simply post the packing slips on terminal.

    Mid range solution:

Create an actual report in AX for picking without posting picking lists or add a field in the sales line table and use the excel add-in to update this. Post packing slips on a terminal.

    The "biggest" and best solution:

Use the WHS module with mobile terminals and get a proper warehouse management solution.

Depending on your size and complexity/needs I would suggest consulting an AX partner  to guide you forward.

    Hi Loku,

The registration is done when you want to inform the warehouse to pick items without using all warehouse features. Then there warehouse workers can provide feedback what was picked or not. Based on the picked quantity you can then create the packing slip. This is a method for more simple warehouses.

When using handheld devices, this is a form of registration, but more managed by rules and used in more complex warehouses.

so in fact both is the same process, but depending on several factors you can choose to use advanced warehouse options or "paperwork". When the warehouze is really too simple, you can indeed skip every registration step and directly post a packing slip.

    Thanks Fredrik and Andre!

    1. Has anyone of you used RFPlus Warehouse management addon with AX2012 R3?

    2. Is the new AX Advanced WMS too complex (with too much setup) for a mid size warehouse and is that the reason why some people would still get a WMS addon integrated?

    3. and if a company wants to implement the WMS system at a 2nd phase, what mandatory setups they have to have done at Phase 1? I assume some setups for Items should be done 'coz after the transactions are posted, it's not easy to add them back in?

    Hi Loku,

I would recommend to hire an expert for a day or so to explain your situation and let this person come with a good advise. On the forum we can send you our thoughts, but we are not aware of your situation.

I haven't seen any implementations with RFPlus. Never heard of this add-on before. I know some others.

The new warehouse features in R3 can be complex or more simple, depending on your situation.

If you want to use WMS in a second phase, you need to consider that changing the storage dimension group is not easy to change on running items. So or you have to activate all dimensions needed also for WMS and possible allow blank values (would possible not be allowed for some dimensions). Possible some dimensions can be filled with defaults. Or at the 2nd phase create new items which will use the new storage dimension group.

For sure you might forget something in the first phase which will make life a bit more complex when going into a 2nd phase. So I wonder if implementing warehouse in a next stage would be advisable; probably not.

Another reason for having a separate warehouse solution, like Manhattan, is having no dependency on any AX outages and/or local on-premise setup. I had once a customer with three warehouses at different sites which did have each an own legacy product for warehouse management. Using integrations the activity was synchronized (e.g. send PO to WMS and receive warehouse transactions).
