PROBLEMS DEPLOYING NAV ON WAN!

Hello guys,

I'm trying to deploy NAV in an institution with 3 branches. Their server is based at the headquarters and hosts both the NAV 2016 SERVER and the SQL DATABASE SERVER. I've setup clients to login using NavUserPassword. The problem is, clients from the other two branches have a lot of difficulties accessing NAV while those at the H.Q are working with NAV pretty well. Now, I've tried almost everything but nothing has worked for me so far.

I've done port forwarding on the router, disabled firewalls, ensured that the time on client and server machines are in sync, pinged the server and clients too and the response is okay... anyone with a solution to this???

Regards,

Eddie.

check also the spn settings, follow msdn.microsoft.com/.../jj551742(v=nav.90).aspx

when using credential type navuserpassword you need to use certifications and ssl protocol. that's a very secure method. for that follow msdn.microsoft.com/.../ee414240(v=nav.90).aspx

I have however done other connection tests over the internet and realized that the clients can connect just fine but the institution has raised security concerns. Is the implementation of NAV certificates a sure and solid security solution and a reliable one???

Yes Mahesh, the two locations are in the same domain. At first I was using the server name and never succeeded in establishing any connection with the server, I later changed it to the ip address and it is then that users could connect to the server once in a while and with the above stated error messages recurring.

    Hello Eddie,

Are those two other locations in the same domain? if yes as alex said have you tried  ip instead of name of the server?

    Thank You

"The program could not create a connection to the server. Do you want to try again?" this is one of the errors users get when trying to start nav client. However, there are several instances where users manage to connect but then the connection only lasts for a few minutes then breaks displaying this error message "The connection to the server has been lost. The application will close."

If you can let us know the error that users get when connecting to the server, it would be easy for us to identify the root cause. Can the users from other two branches can ping to the server using server name (not with IP)

Hello Eddie, can you please explain in more details "clients... have a lot of difficulties accessing NAV" - do they face some specific error(s) or they can connect but connection is slow or terminates? Are those two other locations in the same domain? Try to use IP instead of the server name, would it give the same result?

I've already imported certificates, and edited ClientUserSettings with respect to the server, instance, client service ports, credential types & DNS

    What else am I missing???

I already checked those and none of them is leading me towards any solution.
