Individual dex.ini File

Hello:

We use GP 2013 R2, in a Remote Desktop Server (i.e. Terminal Server) environment.  Some of these users access GP, through .rdp files created from the RemoteApp Manager tool on the Terminal Server.

One of our user needs her own dex.ini file.  I know that I can copy the file, place it in her "Users" folder on the Terminal Server, and modify the dex.ini file to meet her needs.

But, how would I configure her .rdp file to reference this individual dex.ini file?

Thank you!

John

    John,

I tried that out, but it turned out not to work for us.. The way I understand the individual DEX.ini per user, is that it was explicitely built by Microsoft for the Web Client users.. not the full client.. GP is not going to create a unique DEX.ini per user in the Data folder.. rather it will save a copy somewhere in SQL (haven't found out yet how).. and use that every time a user is login into GP.. The user's DEX.ini is then copied into the user's %TEMP% path in Windows.

I noticed the reference to Mariano's blog regarding those like us who are on GP 2013 R2, as follows:

There is relief to all the users that have setup GP in a Citrix or TS environment. Since GP2013 was released, you don’t need anymore to have a separate DEX.ini for each user. Read on the Blog post from my friend Mariano Gomez, Dynamics GP MVP : dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.ca/.../working-with-dexini-settings-in.html

The article suggests entering the following line in GP 2013's dex.ini file, to achieve this:  EnablePerUserIni=TRUE

How would this "work"?  Does that mean that each user would have a separate dex.ini file in GP's "Data" directory?  And, if so, then does that mean that I can edit one of the dex.ini files for one particular user?

    Hi John,

Read my blog post on how you can launch GP with a dedicated DEX.ini file :

It's not the RDP that is the challenge, but the way the user launches GP..
