Security: Import Users-Roles assignment

Hey There,

So far I haven't seen any import functionality to import users to roles assignment.

I know I can assign manually via System Administration > Security > Assign users to roles, and of course I can select multiple users per role at once, however, we just imported 1200 users (the entire company). And assigning them one by one (or five by one) is quite a task.

Is there any other way than manually assigning all the users to roles?

For instance: AX2012 always had an import/export functionality.
It exported an Excel file that showed the Users as Rows and the Roles as Columns, and by putting an 'x' in a 'cell', the import functionality knows how to assign the users to the roles.

Hi

You can use Data entity User information (SystemSecurityUserRoleAssociationEntity) to bulk import using the standard Data management framework.

This is an example of exported data.

Thanks for the fast reply. Ok this is exactly what I need indeed. However, it seems that I can only export these entities to for instance another database or so. Is there any way I can export such an entity to Excel, enrich it, and then import it again?

If not, how can I enrich the data within SystemSecurityUserRoleAssociationEntity with my User-Role info of 1200 people?

Yes of course you can.

For Import you can go to Data Management workspace > Import > Fill the mandatory fields

In the selected entities you can add a file in your case it is excel file, then Import.

Below is an example of country/region entity.

Hi WGZ,

Mohammad is fully correct. Note that there is also an entity to do the organization assignments on top of the user role assignments.

Have you also had a look at automatic role assignment? It could be very useful. I have experience dealing with this in an environment with over 2000 legal entities and over 1000 users. I wrote some blogs about it in the past and I'm working on an actual version of it (Dynamics 365) which will be released soon.
