Description Field Length Limitations in NAV 2013

We are being told that description fields are only 30 characters long and customer names are only 20.  

This is much too short for us and limiting.

Apparently others have run into a similar issue in NAV 2009. Is this still limited in NAV 2013 or is it something else?

If it still exists, is the workaround suggested above still valid? Adding addtional fields.

    Description in 2013 are 50 characters.   Customer names are 50 characters as well.  

    Customer No. and Item no. are 20 characters.  

    Adding new fields are still valid solution.
