How to Add blank lines to a Report

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have a  custom report in Navision 2017 that is being used to print a Tax Invoice.

The report did have a Page Footer containing a tear-off remittance advice with details on how to pay.  The problem with this is that where an Invoice had multiple pages of transactions the footer was printing on every page.  I have moved the remittance advice to a Group Footer linked to Customer so it now only prints at the end of a Customer's Invoice, however it is not at the bottom of the page.  I am trying to insert blank lines so that the remittance advice prints as close to the bottom of the page as possible.

The report is reasonably complex (not designed by me) and already has a number of DataItem levels as follows:

  • Customer (Customer record level)
    • Integer (also at Customer record level but used to calculate totals)
      • Integer (seems to be used for page breaks)
      • Cust. Ledger Entry (used to group invoice transactions by Agreement Type)
        • Integer (used to loop and print details of vehicles owned by the Customer)
        • Integer (used to loop and print details of Access Cards controlled by the Customer)
        • Integer (my proposed new DataItem to count and control the printing of blank lines - with one text column called "BlankRow"
      • Integer (seems to be used for page breaks)
      • Integer (seems to be used for page breaks)

There appear to be one or more Integer levels that are all doing the same thing, however the report works as is.

So, I think my new Integer is in the right spot or it could be I can use one of the last 2 Integers and move my "BlankRow" to that Integer.

I know roughly how to count the number of Rows printed however this count doesn't take into account lines that have auto-expanded to print a longer description so the calculation is probably not going to be exact.

The issue I am really struggling with is how to insert "BlankRow" onto the Layout. The Layout via SQL Server Report Builder has the following Row Groups:

  • CustNo
    • AgreementType
      • DocumentNo
        • VehicleFound
          • Details

I have a Group Footer on CustNo - this is where the remittance advice is.

I have tried adding another Group Footer on CustNo but I need a Section linked to "BlankRow".

Can anyone offer suggestions?
