Approval Administrator in Business Central workflows

Is there any particular standard way or workaround available, we can get multiple approval administrator? or if we can assign a group of users as approval administrator?

We wanted to assign multiple users as approval administrator so that if one of the admin is not available, other admin user could see requests pending for approval.

this does not work as expected.

Substitute user does not get to know which all the workflows are pending on absent user and results in overdue.

Hi,

As i know Parallel approval process is not synchronized in Business Central yet. Possibility is it will go for approval to each person simultaneously but they all have to approve.

There is no way in BC where if person 1 is not available then other person will approve. For that you have to tweak some coding. Still if you will tweak it then you have to tweak on each level like cancel or reject level which is very difficult to handle in workflows.

Hi Varum,

A way to go around this is the Delegate option in the workflow:

Based on the Approval User setup the system will delegate the approval to the next approver if the first one doesn't respond.

Hi everyone,

I want to bring the topic up again since got same question as asked originally. All answers provided relate to a person who needs to approve the request, directly or delegated, but the question is Approval Administrator function (set on Approval User Setup form) which allows to a) See all approvals and approval chains throughout the system which auditors, for example, can ask and need to see, or internal process to check who approved what and when for the order or journal b) Delegate or approve any pending workflow. At present there can only be one Approval Administrator so the question is is there any way or workaround to unlock the functionality for multiple people?

Hello All,

Currently, their can only be 1 Approval Administrator. However, this does not mean a Partner cannot be tasked to write an extension allowing for Multiple Approval Administrators. Please be aware this extension will need to effect the Approval User Setup and all related Approval functionality impacting Approval Administrator tasks.

Since there can be only 1 approval administrator, then perhaps you could assign that role to a shared user admin account (perhaps an account that all the IT Staff have access to). Then when the approval administrator is needed, an IT staff member could login under that user account and perform the tasks needed.
