Job Queue Category Code

Hi,

General query about the job queue category code.  Can someone confirm if my understanding is correct.

This field is simply for reference only and will not determine the order that job queue entries within the same category process.  For example
Job queue category = REPORT

JOB QUEUE ENTRY 1 (CATEGORY=REPORT) Begins at 8am and should last for 15 mins.
JOB QUEUE ENTRY 2 (CATEGORY = REPORT) Begins at 8.15am and should last for 20 mins.

In this example if JOB QUEUE ENTRY 1 does not finish until 8.20am does this mean that the job queue entry 2 will be delayed and only start at 8.20am?

Thanks in advance.
Shauna

Hi, yes, I think you are right, this field does not affect the execution order of the Job queue. This is just a reference. In standard job queue, this field is empty.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    Hi Shauna,

Yes that is correct. Below is the MS Documentation for it. It's specified in the Status for the Job Queue Entries.
Waiting Only relevant for job queue entries that are assigned a category code. Indicates that the job is scheduled, but the underlying scheduled task isn't active. After the job queue entry that's currently running and is in the same category finishes, the status of the next job in the category with the status Waiting becomes Ready.
