Accounting Structure configuration using financial dimensions

Dear Members,

Kindly throw some light on the following issue mentioned. Consider that I have three financial dimension (say Location, Division and Department). Under location , I have values as A and B. Under Division, I have values A1, A2, B1 and B2. I am trying to configure the accounting structure in such a way that, if I select location A, automatically the values under division must show up only A1 and A2, not B1 and B2. similarly if I choose B, it must show only B1 and B2 and not A1, A2.

I tried as much as possible to achieve this, but could not make it out. It shows the below error message when I try to add.

"The starting value must be less than the ending value".

Please do render your valuable suggestions and possible ways to meet out my requirement.

Thanks in advance,
M Saravanan

    Hey M Saravanan,

Requesting you explore below configuration to meet as per standard business central product.

Go t0 General Ledger then select dimension and then select Dimension value combination

You can Set up a combination where Location A is valid with Divisions A1 and A2 and mark all other combinations as invalid.
then Repeat this setup for Location B with Divisions B1 and B2.

This approach should restrict the users from selecting an invalid combination but does not dynamically filter the options based on previous selections.

The error message, “The starting value must be less than the ending value,” often points to a range conflict. To resolve this, ensure that the values you're setting in each rule do not overlap incorrectly. Confirm that all sequences are logically ordered without any conflicting rules or ranges. For instance, if Location A maps to A1 and A2 only, verify that there’s no overlap where B values are trying to include these.

Suggestion: If you looking for to work extensively to meet your expectations with above standard functionality and if doesn't help then meet your microsoft developer as inhouse or partner side.

    Hi Saravanan,

You can achieve this through Advances rules structure.

Go to advance rules, add all 3 dimension and update the required combination.
Example, under location add A, in the same row under division add A1.

Once the advances rules is configured, go to account structure and connect advance rules with the account structure.

You can check the below video for similar setup.

    Bharath Jain

    Hi Saravanan,

As Bharath mentioned, and I also recommend you, should use Advances rules structure for this case.

Step by step you can pratice like below:

    1. Configure account structures and add into the Account Structure of Ledger: you have already done.
    3. Add the value A and B for Location, A1, A2, B1, B2 value for Division: You have already done.
    2. Define your Advanced rule structures for A Location and B Location and Activate them as follows:

    3. Add Advanced rule for Account structures

Define Advanced rule for A filter
Define Advanced rule for B filter
Close Advanced rules form and activate Account structures

    4. Open General journal and check

Hope you can do it yourself.

    Bill

Dear Bill Ngo, Vinayak Jain & Vinayak Vishnu Sagvekar ,

Thank you so much for providing the solution to the problem which I have mentioned. I am able to meet out the requirement based on the suggestion that you gave me. But I noticed that , it is working fine for the general journals and not for the inventory adjustment journals. There this is not working out.

Is there any setup that I need to do, if this one has to be enabled for inventory adjustment ?

    Thanks in advance,
    M Saravanan

    Hi M Saravanan,

    Thank you for your feedback.

By current design of MS. It is working fine for the general journals and some other journals if the designed field has a main account and FD combination as follows:
Otherwise filtering FD is not supported if main account and FD are entered separately like below.

There are no place to setup that. Therefore you need to customize to meet your requirement if any.

    Rgds,
    Bill
