Tenant to tenant migration - Difference Production vs. Sandbox environment

Dear community,

we are about to perform a tenant to tenant migration in our company as the dynamics crm system runs on a seperate tenant. As we are following Microsofts procedure here, I was wondering if it is necessary to migrate the production environment after we have test migrated the sandbox environment?

Are there any drawbacks from migrating the sandbox copy to the new tenant and just continue to work on the sandbox copy and leave the production environment in place for a couple of month to be able to go back?

I am thinking of this as you would work on the excel list of a colleague - you first copy it and then work on the copy - just to be safe and able to go back to the initial state. Microsoft support confirmed that we could work on the sandbox copy...I was just wondering if there might be any ramifications along the way that we are currently not thinking of?

Thanks,

Max

    Hi!

this will depended on business needs, if you are ok with the sandbox migration and everything is working as expected, and the environment is up-to-date with the last production copy. Is just a matter to convert that dev environment into production when users are migrated as well. Please bear in mind that users in source tenant will not be able to access to instance in the target tenant and vice versa. As far as I understand you are keeping a copy of your environment on the source Tenant just to be safe that everything goes smoothly. That is fair enough.
