In overlap when the pieces are moved at shifts end, the overlap quantity grows

We don't know why this happens, only with large quantities.  The batch gets moved, the overlap quantity continues to grow.  This eventually causes all the operations to grow in quantity.

I guess this is Manufacturing execution in AX. 2012?? Please elaborate on the issue.

When trying to move a quantity to the next operation, an info log appears referencing the journal as well as the capacity update, production order # and operation.  The error reads:  Production order could not be scheduled.  Not enough capacity could be found.

We then check the overlap which is found Production Control\Common\Production Orders\All Production Orders.

Under production route which contains Terms and Overlap, under overlap there is Transfer Batch and Overlap quantity.  It is the overlap quantity that grows.  The Overlap quantity is not necessary, is it possible to remove this part of the form and its relations?

Let me know if you would like a screen shot.

The overlap quantity is intended to allow the commencement of the next operation prior to the completion of the previous one to concatenate the end to end time of production from a scheduling perspective, but to answer your question - yes you can remove if it is not necessary.

What areas does shutting this function off affect?

The overlap reduces the overall start to end time of the order - remove it, reschedule and you will see.

Can you be a little more specific!

The runaway overlap uses all capacity; the production orders cannot be scheduled.

Basically whilst the first operation is still ongoing the second can commence depending upon the transfer batch, so if the operations run independently took 10 minutes each to make 10 and the transfer batch was 2 it would take 12 minutes rather than 20 as the second operation starts the moment it has 2.

I read the blog you suggested last week.  It's a great explanation on how it works.  I need to know why it doesn't work.

I can also do without the smugness contained in a lot of these answers.  This is why we're in this situation to begin with.

    Hi Linda

Slightly confused, there is no "smugness" in any of my answers from my perspective; I am just trying to answer your questions and help you.

These forums are not the best place to get in depth detailed analysis of complex customised issues. Your partner needs to be able to assist you, if they cannot get another would be my advice as you are presumably paying for support and for them to understand your system as they implemented it with you.
