Exception in creation of lead - cannot find record to be updated

We have a marketing form with a lead matching strategy that looks at the subject and the campaign on the Lead:

We did this because we want all submissions from this form to overwrite a single Lead, rather than create a new one each time. So the form is set to pre-fill those two fields, and there is only one Lead in our database which has matching values in those fields.

For example, the form is pre-filled with "Form Submission" in the subject field, and "Placeholder" in the campaign field. There is one Lead in our system which also has "Form Submission" in the subject field, and "Placeholder" in the campaign field, so I would assume this matching strategy would cause the form submission to overwrite that lead.

However, all the submissions are failing with the description "Exception in creation of lead" and technical details "Exception: Cannot find record to be updated".

I don't understand what's causing the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, I just changed the form back to its original settings. I could not get the Lead matching to work the way I intended.

Sounds reasonable, did you ever get this resolved?

Hi Autumn Arbury - I think I figured out the reason it wasn't working was because the marketing form in question updates a Lead *and* a Contact. The Lead already existed, but the Contact didn't, so it was throwing up this error. I'm not 100% sure, but that's my current theory.

Hey Charlotte, did this ever get resolved? I might suggest a support ticket to help troubleshoot as it seems to be environment specific?

    Hi Nya

No, all the required fields are on the form and pre-filled correctly.

    Hi,

Is there any required fields in Lead entity which have not been included into your marketing form?

    Hi Nya

It is indeed a lookup field and in the submissions I can see it has the correct campaign GUID:

If I download the results it even comes up as the correct name in the excel spreadsheet. I can't see what issue it might be having with the campaignid if it is picking it out just fine.

If you have any other ideas I'd be glad to hear them!

    Hi,

The campaignid field should be a lookup field, right?

Please check the submission value in the insights tab of the form to see the value of the format of the submitted value for this field.

And here is a similar case which may help you.
