Is it possible for a freelance consultant to buy a D365FO license in order to keep his/her knowledge up-to-date when he/she is between assignments and does not have access to any environments? No production environment will be necessary. Any help/pointers as to how to achieve this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can use trail version, and if you are a partner, please access the preview subscriptions: docs.microsoft.com/.../sign-up-preview-subscription

trial version is the way to go, could also download VM from LCS and use for learning

you don't need to buy subscription

Thanks all for your kind answers. I have now created a trial as suggested. But I don't see my environment when I log into LCS, which is empty. I need to put the environment into maintenance mode in order to activate the revenue recognition feature. How can I do that, put the trial environment into maintenance mode?

LCS is not included in the free trial.

You get an LCS project only if you have partner / customer trial license.

This means also that you can't put the system in maintenance mode, you can't install deployable packages and you can't download a VHD image for local deployment.

Hi,

You can not access the trail version on LCS and set it to maintenance mode.

Trail version has a lot of limitations.

Access the preview subscriptions and download VHD for more study.

Thanks again for your kind answers, really appreciated. One last question then. I cannot download a VHD unless I am a customer/partner, right? Because Mattguo mentions accessing preview subscriptions and downloading VHD, but Nikolaos mentions that this is not possible.
