Custom Geo Tracking

Hi,
 
We opted for a custom frontend in favor over the OOB field service app.
This also removes the requirement that a field agent has to be a FS user, instead our bookable resources are just contacts.
 
Next step would be to be able to show the current location of our Field Agent in the Schedule Board.
We presumed updating the lat/long on bookable resource would do the trick, but unfortunately this does not work.
 
So we tested it via the normal way, setting up a field agent based on a licensed users and added a geo track record.
Magically the last location of the field agent is properly displayed on the Schedule Board map.
Directly updating the lat/long on that bookable resource, does NOT make it move on the map.
Only changes applied via a geo track record are visible in the Schedule board.
 
I checked the standard plugin code but could not see anything more than setting the lat/long + timestamp on the bookable resource.
So I'm wondering, did I miss something or is that realtime location only possible with bookable resource of type user?
 
Does anybody had any success using this features with bookable resource of type contact?
