SMTP Setup... Test works but no emails sending

Hi Everyone

Thanks very much for the support in advance.

I have a strange situation, I'm hoping we can shed a little light on it.

I have setup SMTP to use my internal exchange server. I am using Basic authentication, port 25 and a working account.

Firstly: the email test works fine... I choose to send an a test from the configured account and it works. The test is received (although there is no trace of the test email in the account sent box... is this correct?)

Now if I try to send a statement via email... nothing seems to happen and no statement is ever received. (also nothing appears in the account sent box...)

1. If I preview the statement instead of sending as email, it is populated with information and looks correct.

2. If i deliberately misconfigure the SMTP settings with the wrong password and try again, I do get an error when I try and send.

I don't really know what to look for. I assume that if the test email works that firewalls and exchange servers are configured and happy?

I would expect the test email to appear in the user sent box as well? otherwise how do I have a history of what has been sent?

Also... I can only test send/ receive to the same account. When I select to test smtp settings, the system asks "specify the email address you want to send to and from"... I can only input 1 option for both the to and from address so I can only test send to myself... (the account configured) and it works. Ideally I would like to test from the default sending account TO a completely external account but this is not possible.

Can anyone provide and ideas on this?

Did you or your admins change any part of configurations or upgrade any services at this time ?

Hello, not that I am aware of. This is a new installation and it is the first time we have tried emailing. We assumed it was all ok as the SMTP test email works fine.

    Hello FabioS ,

    Hello check the event viewer,

Also once check the simply sending by some codes and let us know the status.

see the simple code for sending mail thru coding, [if your SMTP Mail setup is configured]

Also replace the sender & recipients address.

Hello. Which event viewer do you think I should be focusing on. Local computer, Nav Server or Exchange server?

    Fabio,

Check the event viewer on the server and one other thing we had the similar scenario and the reason we did not receive emails was the email attachment size restriction. Please try with a customer where you know the statement is not big.

    Hello, thanks for the information.

We checked event logs and could see no issue.

We ran more tests, it appears the email tests were working but the receive email address on statements was not being changed to one we could monitor. So we didnt know the emails were getting to destination. We had to change the statement address from "document layout". I am also understanding that by default there is no record of the email sent recorded in the sent box, and this is normal, another reason we couldn't see if the email was going. Thanks for all your help everyone
