End production: negative cost amount for receipts is not allowed

Dear Experts  ,

I am facing error while ending production order stating "negative cost amount for receipts is not allowed "  , this production order has picking list which contains item posted with - negative qty ( wastage item to generate scrap ) more than the qty of production order. Say Production order is for 100 kg  and wastage produced 223 kg ( as this was a trial product so we have generated more wastage )

Can anyone explain the reason and the solution ?

    Hi,

I would expect that you have configured your item model groups in a way that no negative physical inventory is allowed.

Based on the data (100 kg good, 223 kg waste), it looks that you have a negative -123kg.

Can this be the underlying issue?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Mahim,

Not sure why you are posting picking list with negative quantity. Even if it's scrap, the quantity has to be +ve, there is scrap column on picking list line, that you can use to denote that the quantity is scrap.

Can you review above and then review the journals that have been posted.

Negative quantity in the picking list means, that you are actually adding quantity to the warehouse and not reducing it.  In addition, I was not able to post -ve quantity (Can only reverse what i have consumed on production order), getting error "Returned quantity exceeds the updated physical quantity.". not sure how you were able to post it.

The error that you are getting is valid - That means you are trying to add inventory in system but at a negative price (that should never be allowed). You need to figure out why it's picking up negative price.

    Thanks,

    Hi  ,

Item model group has configuration for not posting item with negative inventory. I am not able to understand why it is taking negative cost.

In our production process we do take sample production run for testing and R&D  which is designed in a way  that lower output consumes more raw material because our assembly line's design. That results in more wastage compare to regular production. Thus,  100 kg production order is having wastage of 223 kg which was posted as negative amount in picking list ( in order to create waste , as we are not using scrap column due to sale of scrap needs inventory for it )

Is there any solution to end this order ????

    Hi Satish,

Reason for negative positing in picking list to create and maintain wastage stock in order to Sell via sales invoice and part of scrap is also reusable in some scenario.  I am not sure by using scrap column will it allow to maintain inventory to use or sell it.

What I could figure out is my production order was of 100 kg. In order to obtain cost of 100 kg it will derive from items consumed in picking list and its values , As I am posting wastage in -ve in picking list which exceeds the production qty i.e 223 kg waste against 100 kg production qty.  RAF qty is absorbing cost from picking list which has -ve cost now due to massive wastage entry.

I couldn't find other observation or solution , Can you suggest any other theory ?????

    Hi Mahim,

I understand what you are trying to do but production order picking list is not used to generate the wastages.. it's only for consuming materials that feeds to the cost. What you are producing as part of your production is by-product.

Please take a look at link below and see if this is something that you can use. It's requires different setup for Manufacturing.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../about-co-products-and-by-products

If this is something that gets very complicated and you don't want to change manufacturing processes, you can just record an inventory adjustment to add the wastage back to inventory adjustment OR somehow do customization to trigger the creation of adjustment directly from production order. Once added, you can sell it from any medium as regular items.

    Thanks,

    Satish Panwar
