Client wants a ListPage with multiple records displayed

I've been asked to develop a version of the Released products list page which outer joins to the External Item table.

Therefore, some products will be displayed multiple times with only the External descriptions changing.

I advised that because of convention in AX to develop as a separate Inquiry form instead.

However, the Client says they want as per the original List page so that users can filter on the External item ids (whilst speaking with Customers) and easily use any of the buttons in the ribbon to access and edit existing Product data.

Maybe only a small compromise to make but it seems like a bad design choice to me!

Are there any other reasons why ListPages are not suitable for Inquiry / Report type data?

    The solution is perfectly ok if your customer wants to see external item description, filter by them, and they don't mind seeing the same AX product multiple times on the list page.

    I've been asked to create a copy of an existing list page based on that for Released Products but with a different datasource.

    The new datasource will result in some of the Released products appearing multiple times down the page.

    Is there any reason why this is not a good solution? I was thinking in terms of best practice / convention because AX doesn't seem to have these.

    Alternatives include Inquiry form but end user wants all the existing ribbon (action pane) to remain.

    Hi MGP,

    What is your exact question? You start with a description that a customer wants to have a join with the external item table and have multiple records for the same item with another external item ID. Then you ask a question why list pages are not suitable for inquiry/report type. I don't see the exact link. Can you explain and elaborate?
