How do you view a component of a custom solution within the default solution? If that's not possible, how do you view a custom solution in it's entirety?

I believe you are using solution prefix(new_ or custom one ) whenever you are creating any component belonging to any unmanaged or default solution. So in the Default solution you can easily search with the solution component Name starting with solution prefix and also selecting component type and view from the top menu of the default solution.
