Double opt in gets blocked by "respect" consent level in Active GDPR Configuration

Hello Everyone,

I created a double opt in for the subscriptions lists. Everything worked fine, I received the confirmation email and got added to the list.

After that, I have set the Active GDPR configuration to "Respect: consent". The double opt in does not work anymore. I do not receive the confirmation email to the subscription list, because at the time of subscribing my consent level is 2(None).

How do I make sure that my GDPR configuration is respected, but at the same time make sure that the first subscribers receive the double opt in email to confirm their subscription?

Thank you!

Stay safe

    Hi Catermina,

Could you confirm consent level of your contact?

Because you said that consent level is 2(None) of the contact, but 2 is Transactional.

Please take a look for description for different level of consent given:

Hi again and thank you Clofly!

I still get challenges. I have:

    - a very simple test form with: First and Last Name, Email, Subscription list and Consent level.
    - my default marketing settings set up with double opt in elements such as Confirmation request email for Subscription and consent level + thank you pages for both Subscription and Consent level, I have content settings set up with a preference center.
    - my active GDPR configuration set up as "Respect consent".

Whenever I sign up as a new user, I do get both email confirmation: 1 for subscription and 1 for confirmation of consent level. (Side note: I personally believe it is a very bad UX to have to confirm 2 emails - how can I avoid that? I want one email for all)

But after clicking on both email buttons "confirm", I see only few changes on my contact data.

Here is the simple form: (mandatory consent level highlighted in yellow)

I register and all seems fine, I receive my emails.

But no list subscription attached to my contact although I have clicked on the link multiple times.

My consent level got raised to consent (3) Subscription, because I have the consent level set up in my form and I have clicked on the confirmation request email for raise of consent 2 times.

What do you suggest could be the reason here?

Thank you so much for your help! It is very very much appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Catermina

I must correct myself, I was added to the subscription list.

Although when having consent level (4)marketing, I got downgraded to consent level (3) Subscription.

How can I avoid downgrading of consent level and how can I have 1 email confirmation?

We cannot afford to spam users with 2 emails, right after signing up!

    :) Thank you

    BR,

    Catermina

    Hi Catermina,

Do you mean in your test, when test recipient subscribed a newsletter list in subscription center,

his/her consent level will downgrade to level 3 even if his/her consent level is 4 already?

    Regards,

    Clofly

    Hi Catermina,

You wrote: "Whenever I sign up as a new user, I do get both email confirmation: 1 for subscription and 1 for confirmation of consent level. (Side note: I personally believe it is a very bad UX to have to confirm 2 emails - how can I avoid that? I want one email for all)".

Can you explain this a bit? I don't understand where the 2nd email comes from.

Whether you have Global DoI only or you use form level DoI (released in April), you define template for confirmation email and this is the only one a user receives. Multiple emails usually are the result of a user subscribing for several newsletters (if form-level DoI is not used). In that case user should receive one email per subscription to confirm.

Sorry for the very late reply Clofly,

To answer your question, YES, my test contact had consent level 4 and after subscribing it got consent level 3. Not so good to loose the consent level 4!

Do you know how to avoid downgrading consent level in newsletter subscription?

The test contact subscribed from our "newsletter" webpage, which is not the same as the subscription center.

Thank you for always your fast reply and engagement.

    BR,

    Caterm.

    HI Elena,

Thank you for your follow up. It is correct what you say, fortunately I found a way to have only 1 confirmation email even tho it is multiple lists the users subscribed to. This is a lot better in case they subscribe to multiple lists from one form only. A lot better!

I really try avoid overwhelming users with emails, as it is usually giving unprofessional impressions.

Now I get 1 confirmation email whenever they register to my form (1 form for all - no need to complicate subscriptions further)

I do not allow double opt in "raise of consent level" email anymore as I find, it is unnecessary to have a double opt in for a consent they already actively agreed to (by chekmarking the checkbox "I agree to receive..") .

I tried to have these 2 very different emails in one:

    - email confirmation for the double opt in when subscribing to a newsletter

    - email confirmation for the double opt in when user is upgraded of consent level (to answer your doubt, this is the second email)

    Does this makes sense?

    Thank you for your engagement!

    BR,

    Caterm.

    Hi Catermina,

It seems that the behavior is a back-end process, If you are still facing the issue, you could open a support ticket for further assistance.
