Purchase Order > Work Order > Multiple Asset Creation

I'm wondering what the best possible solution there is in the latest 2022 waves for the following:

1. Work Order is created within the system.

2. Purchase Order is created with 10 X CAMERAS that are receipted and added into the work order automatically.

3. The 10 X CAMERAS then need to be installed and asset information entered, such as locations, height etc upon being fitted as this information is important to gather at the time of fitting.

4. The 10 X CAMERAS will need to be 10 X assets and not a single asset, which dynamics for some reason by default only creates 1 which I've never understood why.

My question mainly here is:

1. What's the best way of the 10 X Cameras becoming assets from the moment they are added to the work order (without the work order needing to be marked as 'Completed' first).

2. What's the best way of the 10 X Cameras becoming INDIVIDUAL assets for the customer, as they are one line item in the products upon being added from the PO.

I want to avoid using JavaScript on this one and keep everything native/Microsoft/flow etc to avoid compatibility for future development.

I have the same question (0)

Hi Paul, this is definitely something we would like to improve in the future. There is an idea you can upvote here - experience.dynamics.com/.../

Lucas Diaz I think you came up with an elegant solution?

Without customization, perhaps you can receive the cameras to the warehouse and then when installing add each work order product individually which will convert each camera to it's own asset. Otherwise, you will need a flow or plugin to generate an asset per QTY on the work order product line.

    Paul,

This has been a short comming for a long time, here is a potential solution:

    1. Add asset specific data fields on the work order product entity as an interim data store. For example, initial reading or comments on the customer asset. The specialist will enter all details for the asset on the work order product fields.
    2. Create a PowerAutomate to create customer assets per each used work order product. Note: There will be 1 already created customer asset (standard MS behavior), make sure the flow checks for this asset, updates or deletes it, then proceed with the customer asset creation.

Option 2: Create and embed a customer asset creation PowerApp. This app would list at the work order products and allow the user for which products must a customer asset be created for

Additionally, I would recommend not bypassing the process of marking the work order as "Completed" for customer asset creation as technicians could make mistakes and then deletion of assets will be required. This can lead to technicians deleting the wrong customer asset in accident.

Do you have any examples of "Create a PowerAutomate to create customer assets per each used work order product."

:) Sounds easier than it is to create.

    Paul,

This was part of a customer's implementation but it would be a "loop" through all the work order products and creating a corresponding customer assets under the work order's customer location.

    Here are additional details: docs.microsoft.com/.../loops
