Multiple Forecast & MRP Plans and settings

I have a requirement were we need to run forecast and mps plans for a 3 month period (3 month plan) nightly. We also need to run 12 month plans at least once a week. The settings on the coverage groups are set to align with the 3 month plans (coverage time fences, negative days positive days, explosion time fence....). When we run the 12 month plans, the planning is limited by the setting on the coverage groups aligned with the 3 month plans (even though the  forecast and master plans for the 12 months have the 365 days time fences). There are no planned orders beyond the setting supporting the 3 months coverage groups.

I have two questions, 1) if I set the coverage groups time fences and negative days to align with the 12 months plans, what are the implications or risks and 2) is there a better way to achieve our goal?

Thank you

    Hi,

On the 'Time fences' fast tab of the Master Plans setup form, you can override the time fences that are set on the Coverage group. If you set a Coverage time fence here to 365 days, you will get a years worth of planned orders in the 12 month plan.

    Like Guy said...

This is one of the few places where a higher tier parameter overrides the more granular levels. So if you tick the boxes in the master plan settings, the coverage groups are set.

Why do you have a different set of negative days for your long term plan?

    Hi Guy,

That is what we have on the Time fences for the 12 month plan (365 days), we have the same thing on the Forecast 12 plan. When we run the 12 month forecast, the planned orders promptly stop at 100 days-coverage group (not 365). The 12 month MPS with forecast plan performs as you have noted, the 365 days override the 100 days. We do need to look at and extract the 12 month forecast planned orders and they are not there. This is what is confusing.

    Thank you

    Fredrik,

Please see the reply above. Also the reason I changed the negative days when I was testing, I could not change the coverage time fence from 100--> 180 without message from AX noting negative days should not be less than the time fence, so I made them both the same.

    Thank you

Do you have negative days equal to your time fence? I think you referring to the positive days not being less then the time fence. Negative days are the number of days you accept your inventory to be negative/accept being late/planned slack in your plan. Using dynamic negative days it also will take active deliveries in to account. I normally MAX set this to 7 days. Preferably 2...

    Hi Fredrik,

I do have negative days equal to positive days and they are equal to the time fence. For our 3 month plan these are all set at 100 days.  These are all set in the coverage groups. For our 3 month forecast and our 3 month mps with forecast plan, this works great. I can see all the forecast plans and all the mps plans that include forecast for the 3 months. The problem comes in when we run the 12 month forecast and then the 1 year mps with forecast. The plans (timefences) for these plans are set for the 365 days. We get a complete set of planned orders for the MPS plan for one year, however, in the 12 month forecast plan, the planned orders go out only for 100 days. I have been hesitate to change the coverage groups from 100 days to 365 (for positive, negative, or fence) as that is not what our 3 month plan requires.

    Thanks

    Fredrik,

I put the negative days back to 7 days and reran the forecast for 6 months, the planned orders for the forecast plans only go out 100 days (which is the coverage period that is set on each  of the coverage groups and aligned with the 3 month plan we run nightly). The 6 month forecast plan has 180 days on the time fence and the 6 month master plan has 180 days defined on the time fences and 7 days on the backward capacity time fence.

My planned orders in the 6 month forecast plan stop in Jan and my planned orders in my 6 month masterplan include demand forecast through Mar. I am thinking that this has to be a bug as I have run several test variations. I would be happy to send snapshots if settings if there is any interest and would appreciate a deeper look.

    Thank you again
