Anyone encountered issues with GP 18.2.1036 on latest Win10 21H1 ?

I've a customer that has been running GP 18.2.1036 since last year without any major issues.. They do have a Terminal Server running Windows 2016 Std, but they barely use it, as most local computers have the GP client deployed locally. I'd guess that most client computers are running Win10 so far, as Win7 has been deprecated and the computers where either upgraded or replaced with built-in OEM Win10 setups..

Recently they added a new computer to replace an old machine and it came setup with Win10 21H1 version.. Unfortunately the GP client that has been installed the same way as were all other clients, is behaving strangely. The user that is logged in Windows is member of the local admin group, and has full permissions on the machine..

When trying to start GP after the initial setup with the 'sa' user, it throws various pop-ups (3 times) and then logs into GP, but can never complete the setup of the various ISV products (like Rockton Smartfill and Toolbox), as if it was denied any permissions to do so. I've double-checked the ODBC and everything looks fine so far. GP Utilities starts & completes without any errors. I tried to re-sync the dictionaries, which are on a shared network folder like any other GP client uses it so far. It's not a permission issue on the shared network folder, as that user can create files and folders.. so read/write is granted.

The later error message seems to point to a PSTL library issue, which the 'sa' user is not able to configure successfully either once logged into GP and past all the errors..

Could this be a problem with the Win10 21H1 build or totally unrelated?

TiA for any input.

The objects being referenced are part of the PSTL feature or Technical Service Tools, I believe it shows in the Dynamics.set file.

I can't say we've seen any issues with PSTL or Dynamics GP on a Windows 10 21h1 OS, nothing that we've heard of at least yet.

I couple things I'd check if I were to be troubleshooting this type of issue:

    1. If Dynamics GP, including PSTL works fine on every other machine and OS, but this one workstation with Windows 10 21H1, then it would seem to show that there isn't an issue with the databases or database objects, to include gpAppEnb and gpUPRCPR, being referenced in the errors.

    2. On the problem workstation, I'd also want to try having all users log out of GP on that machine, then rename the GP directory in order to run a Repair against it, which would give us a 'clean' GP directory without any third party products, customizations nor modified forms and reports dictionary files.

At that point, I'd launch GP using 'Run As Administrator' and then login as 'sa', to try and re-create the issue with PSTL and/or these error messages.

--If they didn't show any longer, then we'd add back the third parties, customizations or modified forms/reports dictionary files, one-by-one, launching and testing GP after each one, on this workstation, to see if the errors come back. If they do, then you may have your potential cause of the issue.

    Thanks

    Hi Derek,

Thanks for your reply.. I had actually already tried that (though without renaming the folder first) by running the 'repair' or 'remove' product in the control panel, and it failed in both cases with that message:

I'm going to try to rename the GP folder and run a repair again, see if that helps.

    Derek,

Here is an update on this case..

I ended up as per your recommendation to rename the faulty GP folder and run a repair, which worked this time without getting an error message like the last time.

I then re-installed all the ISV products one by one and made sure that GP was started in elevated mode after each setup to unpack eventual chunk file.

All worked like a charm and in the end the GP client was fully functional.

Some of the ISV products require to be run in 'elevated' mode too, otherwise they would fail to install properly, likely because they copy some DLL's into the Add-in folder in GP, and with the UAC this might not work under regular security context.
