Wich Layer does a developer have acces To

Posted on by 70

We have AX 2012 R3 in our company. its a small manufacturing company. I am the only devoper here. I've been asked to implement a couple of small customizations to fit this company's specific way to manage the production process. I'm new to AX developing and have this doubt about the layer model and in wich layer I am allowed to code this customizations.

Thanks in advcanced

    Hi,

If i remember correctly you should also have license to develop on CUS layer. Otherwise USR\USP is the only options.

And, you should use a dedicated model for customer specific stuff, instead of the default [CUS model]. So, if there's not another model already on CUS layer, start by creating one.

Normally customer specific developments are done on CUS layer.

VAR is for Value Added Reseller = Dynamics partner who might have some solutions that they sell to customers.

ISV is for Independent Software Vendors who build commercial solutions on top of Dynamics.

USR is for Users, but actually users should not do development normally. But you can use this layer for some ad hoc stuff such as developing jobs directly in test/prod system.
