Does Creating a connection between a record and a User automatically share the record with the User?

I just tried and found that this is happening not sure it is as per OOB CRM - Since I could not find an msdn article that explicitly mentions about this behavior.

Can you please confirm this.

AFAIK no, the record is not automatically shared with the user on adding a connection record between the user and that record.

No, it wont share the record.

Then I am surprised why this is happening in my environment. From an Opportunity, I added a connection (using the subgrid Sales Teams on the OOB Opportunity form) with a testuser who does not already have access to it. But soon after it is connected, I am able to view the Opportunity from the test user account.

I am sure we do not have customizations that touch on Connection entity.

Can anyone check this from your end please.

    Hi,

I see you are using the default sales team subgrid.

AFAIK that is indeed a connection you are using. However, the sales team subgrid also add the user you are creating the connecting with to an access team on that opportunity. It is the default functionality for that subgrid.

If you would on the other hand create a custom connection role and use a connection to define the link, the sharing will not occur.

If you go to settings > administration > security > access team templates, you should find the opportunity sales team template.

Either remove the read and write options from that team template or use another connection role.

    Thanks very much Wouter!!

I was not aware that the Sales team subgrid was also linked to an Access team.

In fact we want the record to be shared, hence I will not change anything, only that I was wondering why it's happening.

This is indeed very useful feature as far as our organization is concerned as its doing many jobs at a time OOB.
