How to Change the Data Entity Field Sequence in D365?

Posted on by 2,127

Hello, Currently I'm developing the Data Entity where I need to export few fields in certain order in Excel to show it to the Vendor but Dynamics 365 doesn't allow me to do this and I couldn't find any where to control this sequencing property for the fields.

The below image is what my data entity field sequence order render for me but this is not desired one.

The below one is the needed format.

Could any body through some light on this how to control this data field sequencing to export it in excel in the above format.

I've tried rearranging the field in the data Entity field node but that didn't helped me out and also I've tried sequencing number on the Entity mapping but this too didn't help me, still I couldn't achieve the  desired export format. Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks:)?

Some may prefer a new thread to resurrecting this, but feels pretty relevant...

Can anyone offer advice if I'm persistently seeing this not affect the order of fields in the output? For both custom and standard data entities, I'm seeing the "default" order in the export file even when I've carefully ordered using Entity attribute

The best approach for this is to select a sample template file while creating data project and adding your entity to the project.

Assume you are using enhanced view.

    1. Create export project and add your entities.

    2. Click on applicable legal entities button

    2. Click on processing group that you created for your export and click on entities.

    3. Select your entity and click on Entity Attributes

    4. Then you can re-sequence your fields using up and down buttons.

Unfortunately there is no option to re-arrange the sequence with which the fields appear in the spreadsheet that will be imported.

The 'sequence' field refers to the sequence of importing the data entities and not to how the fields appear.

The only way to put the fields in the order you wish is by creating the data entity from scratch or by adding new rows where you want in order to achieve the desired result.

Of course this is time consuming and inefficient.

I don't think its possible this way. But if you ever do find a solution, Do share!
