I have lot tracked inventory that has been received and invoiced into the wrong Item Number.  Quantities, costs, vendor, etc all stays the same but I need to change to a different item number.  How should this be done?  Item Reclass Journal?

Thanks.

No, you will need to use the Item Journal to negative adjust the item from the wrong item. Then positive adjust it into the correct item.

The question I have is, does the correct item number already exist in the system? Or was the item originally created with the wrong item number and you are not looking to transfer any of the quantity from the wrong item number to the correct item number(so 2 physical items exist) etc...but you only want this item to be a different item number?

I want to be sure you are not looking to say transfer all your item quantity from the wrong item number to another item that already exists in the system.

You can rename an item within the system to the proper item number. That can be done at item master card….but I would hesitate on stating to do this without knowing the answer to my questions above. I would always test this PRIOR to doing anything in the live database.

The item reclass would be if you want to reclassify if something within the posting was wrong(not the item number itself), say your lot/serial number to a new one as maybe it was incorrectly entered. However you would not reclassify the whole item itself. Reclassify you can do

    location

    bin

    dimension

    lot/serial number and expiration date

and on the warehouse reclassification you can do further options like reclassifying on the zone.

As Alex mentioned, you would do a negative adjustment from the old item and then a positive adjustment into the new item IF they are two completely different items in the system.

    Thanks
