Sales Order Picking & Batch Numbers

Hi All

I have non LP locations set up in the warehouse, and are wanting to store multiple pallets in them with different Batch numbers which is not a problem.

When sales order picking or production picking, it asks to confirm the batch number. any ways around this?

I have auto confirm set up on the work confirmation part on the scanner. using system grouping as a way of doing the work on the mobile device.

I have the same question (0)

    Hello Ka1979,

Short answer is "no".  If you are tracking batch number, the system will need to know the batch number you are picking or moving.

However, if you only have one batch number of an item in a location (or on a LP), if you pick from that Location (or LP) the system is smart enought to know which item batch number is being used and will not ask for it.  But if you have more than one possible batch number in teh Location (or LP), you need to tell the system which one is being picked or moved.

So if you want to avoid scanning the batch number, you need to limit the number of item & batches in teh Location (or on the LP).

    Regards,

    Danny

    Hi Danny,

Thanks for your reply. I thought as much.

Since the products have been set up with the tracking of batches am I right in thinking also you cant take them off due to Transactions already against them?

    Regards

    K

    Hi,

When you have batch (or serial) controlled items, Reservation hierarchy plays a role in a picking as well.

If you have Batch below location reservation hierarchy, then it is considered, that batch should be selected and scanned by warehouse employees.

If you have Batch above location reservation hierarchy, then batch is reserved on the order, and when doing picking specific batch is already there. Warehouse employees supposed to pick that batch. In this case batch number will be displayed in the mobile app, scanning can be skipped (if batch confirmation is not enabled).

    Hi,

Just looked and the batch is below the location

These cant be deleted and re done due to the dependent items, and I cant see a way to re config the hierarchy.

You should create new Reservation hierarchy with batch above location setup.

Then, you can use Change reservation hierarchy for items function in Periodic menu Warehouse management module to change the reservation hierarchy on item.

Hi, Yes that works but the warehouse does not like it due to selecting the batch number for picking.

The warehouse has been running for a year and don't like the batch number on products. Any way of totally getting rid of them without creating new SKU's and so on.

    Regards

    Hello KA1979,

Batch above reservation hierarchy comes with its own set of constraints, and I use it only when required for good business reasons. I would not switch to batch above just to skip scanning a batch number.  Even with batch above reservation, we normally recommend having a confirmation step for the batch number on picking otherwise you can't control the batch number that is actually picked.  Ask yourself thess questions: 1) can I safely assume that warehouse staff will pick the batch that is specified on the pick list? and 2) What would be the consequence of having a discrepency between the physical and virtual batch number of the picked item (where physically picked batch does not correspond to system picked batch)

There should be a business reason to track an item by batch (usually full tracability, FEFO reservation, expiry date tracking, batch attributes, customer requirement for sellable days), which comes at a cost: more information to capture & cant automate processes that require knowing the batch number.  If that reason does not justify the cost, then I would suggest revisiting the requirement for batch tracking.

    Regards,

    Danny

Just saw your reply from 8h47.

You would probably get more focussed recommandations and how-tos by starting a different conversation on changing tracking dimension group.

But in short, the process is the same for any dimension group change (Storage, Tracking, or Product Dimension Group):

    Here is the short version:

    Hi Danny, KA1979

I totally agree with Danny - if batch is enabled on the item, tracking should be considered. There is no good way to ignore it.

Batch above reservation hierarchy in some cases could be used as a work-around. But in this case consequences must be assessed - such as discrepancy between batch number in the system and actual batch number in the warehouse, and etc.
